Life as a Creative Artist...

As Ashley Pipes has made her way through her younger years she has captured a passion for window set design. The 'Window Shoppers' are the biggest fans of Ashley's work. They are the audience that Ashley is performing for. I was fortunate enough to interview her and get access to the inside view of her daily life as a window design artist.

Me: Ashley, tell me a little about yourself; where are you from?

Ashley: I am originally from New Orleans, Louisiana but I live in Houston, Texas.

Me: Explain how you became so interested in window design and how long you have been involved with this hobby.

Ashley: I guess you could say I have always been the creative type. In my thirties when my children were younger I was always getting involved with their school programs and plays, creating props and scenes for almost every occasion. It was not until I was in my late thirties that I decided to really take my talent seriously.

Me: What made you choose window design?

Ashley: I have always been so infatuated with miniature things. I really enjoy working with vignettes and shadow boxes. Through this I realized window design would be so perfect for me.

Me: Are there any well-known stores or companies that have hired you to design a window for them?

Ashley:  Anthropologie is probably the most "well-known" store that I have worked for. I typically work for boutiques and personally-owned stores. It provides a more intimate setting that I work much better in.

Me: Thank you so much for your time and providing the public with an understanding of your lifestyle. For my last question I would like to know what your favorite window design has been.

Ashley: That is actually a very tough question. Every design is unique and has a different meaning; therefore I cannot say a specific one, but I guess some of the greatest moments I have had while in the process of designing a window have been when I am alone in my garage, that is where many of my great ideas come to me.
